Book this winter activity by Sami Siida and experience reindeer sledding in the arctic. Meet the Sami and delve into their Sapmi culture!
Northern Norway has plenty of scope for adventurous and relaxing experiences. But what if you could enjoy both in a single day?
Marvel at the spectacular nature of the Sapmi lands while riding a reindeer sled. Know all about the Sapmi culture and enjoy an authentic dish when you book this winter tour. The trip begins at Sami Siida’s premises in Øvre, Alta, where participants will meet their host for the day, a reindeer herder from the Sami community. Your guide will then take you around the Siida area where the Sami have been living for centuries. You will gain insights into the rich cultural heritage of the Sami.
After the guided tour, participants will get ready and venture into the icy terrains of Alta. You will board a reindeer sled, either alone or along with one of the hosts, for an exciting ride in the vast snowfields.
Once the sled ride is over, participants will be taken to a lavvo, the traditional dwelling of the Sami. Here, you will be served bidus, an integral part of the Sami cuisine prepared from sliced reindeer meat served with potatoes and carrots. Thanks to the bonfire, the tent will keep you warm after the ride in the chill weather.
After the delicious meal, participants will be served hot coffee. As you relax by the fireplace, your hosts will keep you entertained with yoik, the musical expression of the Sami. The soothing harmony of their songs would be the perfect way to end this memorable experience.
Since this is a winter activity, participants must dress in warm clothing and, if necessary, bring along warm accessories. The tour provider can arrange for extra beverages like soft drinks and alcohol at an additional charge.
