Get insights into the lives of the Sami people of Norway when you book this tour by Sami Siida. Experience lasso throwing, yoik singing, and much more!
Exploring a new culture allows you to experience how it is to be a part of a different community and gives you insights into their rich culture and practices.
That’s what you can expect when you spend time with the Sami people of Northern Norway when you book this learning experience by Sami Siida.
You need to arrive at the tour provider’s centre in Alta on the tour day, where you will meet and greet a Sami reindeer herder. You will be taken around the centre, where you will learn about the history of this indigenous group, their cultural practices, and how they lead their lives.
After spending time at the centre, you will participate in lasso throwing, which is an important practice undertaken by Sami reindeer herders. Your host will give you tips and tricks to perfectly wound the lasso over a dummy!
Later, your host will invite you to their lavvo, a traditional tent used by Sami, where you will be served a traditional meal called bidos, made from reindeer meat, carrots, and potatoes served along with bread and water/juice.
Once you have relished the meal, you can relax around a bonfire with a steaming cup of coffee.
The tour would end with a traditional yoik performance, which is the oldest vocal tradition in Europe!
