For centuries, horse sledging has been the classical way of discovering the secluded parts of Norway's snow-clad meadows. Today, it has become an everyday activity wherein visitors worldwide witness how people travelled through the arctic lands back in the day. Join Flatmoen Natur on one such journey by booking this unique sleigh riding trip through Alta's countryside.
Participants get picked up by the tour provider's team at around 10:00 am from Alta and are taken to Flatmoen Farm. Here you will see how the famous Norwegian Fjord Horse lives in a traditional farmstead. You will meet the guide for the day here, and then the activity begins. Guests will board the sledge and make themselves comfortable under the warm blankets provided.
Once all the participants are onboard, the horses begin galloping on the snowy lands into the forests. Snuggle in the warmth of the blankets and enjoy the scenery as you approach the banks of the Alta River. The Norwegian Fjord Horse is known for its stability and patience, so sit back and enjoy the ride with the soft background rhythm of the sleigh bells.
The trip will take you through the shadows of the tall trees in the forests along the Alta river to a shelter for taking a rest. Here you can munch on special snacks and hot beverages while listening to local stories from your guide. The shelter has enough space for guests to feel cosy around a fire away from the chill weather outside. After spending some time here, participants will get ready for the return trip back to the farm.
Flatmoen Natur offers pickup and drop off for all guests from and to Alta. This activity is suitable for people of all ages and accommodates up to 20 people per batch.
