Two of the unique winter activities in the Nordic lands are sleigh riding and hunting the Northern Lights. Although both experiences promise tons of adventure, wouldn’t it be a steal deal to participate in them in a single trip? This is what you get by joining Flatmoen Natur on a sleigh ride under the aurora lights.
On a typical tour day, guests are picked up at around 8:00 pm from their preferred location in Alta. You will then be taken to Flatmoen Farm, where your ride for the evening awaits you – a traditional sledge pulled by the famous Norwegian Fjord Horse. Known for being sturdy and patient, this breed has been used as a mode of transport in Norway for several centuries.
This slow adventure trip kickstarts once all guests in the batch have boarded the sledge. Warm blankets are provided on the vehicle so you can enjoy the cool breeze of a typical winter evening in Alta. As the journey begins, you will find yourself completely immersed in the comfort of the ride while listening to jingling bells.
The trip will take you through the forests beside the Alta River and into the vast snow lands till you reach a shelter for a break. This is where participants can get down and gather around the fire to warm themselves up. Guests are served an evening appetiser and dinner along with dessert here. Meanwhile, you will wait for the dancing green lady to appear in the skies, and if you’re lucky, you may also capture this stunning scene in pictures.
After dinner, the group will hop on board for the return trip to the farm and then back to Alta. Since the aurora borealis is a natural phenomenon, the tour provider does not guarantee to view it during this trip. If weather permits, they will arrange their special wedding carriage for the journey.
