Pahtakoski—derived from the words pahta, “mountain wall,” and koski, “rapids”—marks the first major set of rapids on the Alta River. On this traditional riverboat tour, we follow the river from Sorrisniva into the magnificent wilderness, all the way to this beautiful spot.

The Alta River is known as one of the world’s premier salmon rivers and has been the very lifeblood of Alta for generations. The river has shaped both the landscape and the people who live here, and remains an important part of local culture, history, and outdoor life.

Along the way, you’ll experience the mighty natural surroundings up close, surrounded by forested riverbanks, dramatic mountains, and the clear, flowing water.
